The 17th Hole at St Andrew's is probably one of the most famous holes in the world and must rate as one of the top golf holes.
It is difficult to describe the feeling of standing on the tee at the 17th at St Andrews as so many golfers have. For me it is one of the most intimidating tee shots for an amateur golfer to make. The caddy tells you to aim for the V in the roof of the shed and to try and favour the left as the right is into the hotel grounds and out of bounds. The hole is 461 yds so without to much wind it can be a 3 wood and a relatively long iron. As we all know on the left is the dreaded Road hole bunker that has ended many a golfers round including the likes of David Duvall and to the right the road itself. The green is long/ thin and hard to find with your second as the ball either goes into the bunker or drifts down to the road. The placing of the pin behind the bunker makes it impossible to get close unless you are brave or stupid enough to go for the flag. The longer hitting pro's have a huge advantage but there are still few of them who go at the flag especially when they know the bunker is lurking as well as the road.
