The St Medan Golf Club is a Links Golf Course designed by James Braid at a length of 4520 it has 9 holes with a medal par of 64 and a 64 SSS Rating. Situated in the town of Newton Stewart it is one of the Scotland Golf Courses that you may want to play and add to our golf course ratings to see if it will become one of the RateYourCourse top 100 golf courses.

Two sites were considered - the racecourse in Monreith Estate Grounds or Kirkmaiden. The latter was deemed most suitable and the subcomittee was empowered with laying out a 9 hole course.
The golf course was formally opened in October 1905 by the Honorary President, Rt. Hon Sir Herbert Maxwell, Bart., MP. He commented on the growing popularity of golf: "A few years ago, golf was entirely confined to Scotland and now it is hardly possible to find an English common where golfers are not visible."
In the same year 58 other golf clubs opened in the UK.

During my golf course review of St Medan Golf Club I played off the winter tee's . I suspect the course would be much more difficult when the rough grows and normal tee's are in place. The Scenery and Environment around the course is excellent and the atmosphere around the course is great for golf. The course is exposed to the wind so when the wind blows it presents a challenge, one area the course needs to improve on is the course yardage marking which was poor.
